We've shared how the Japanese use hot water as a cultural experience and ritual. Bathing is a way to get clean but for the Japanese, it's also a meditative ritual that has so many hydrotherapy benefits. Now, we can share another benefit to soaking in hot water - a calorie burn!
The article, Lying in a Long Hot Bath Burns as Many Calories as a 30-Minute Walk based on a 2016 study, says both moderate cycling and bathing in hot water burns more calories than when at rest. Those who bathed for 60 minutes burned 79% more calories than when at rest - cycling for 60 minutes burned 750% more calories than when at rest.
