Soaking in Hot Water Burns Calories

We've shared how the Japanese use hot water as a cultural experience and ritual. Bathing is a way to get clean but for the Japanese, it's also a meditative ritual that has so many hydrotherapy benefits. Now, we can share another benefit to soaking in hot water - a calorie burn!

The article, Lying in a Long Hot Bath Burns as Many Calories as a 30-Minute Walk based on a 2016 study, says both moderate cycling and bathing in hot water burns more calories than when at rest. Those who bathed for 60 minutes burned 79% more calories than when at rest - cycling for 60 minutes burned 750% more calories than when at rest. Obviously, exercise is the best way to burn calories but soaking in hot water isn't so bad either!  Check out the article. It shares some other benefits to hydrotherapy:

  • Increased circulation
  • Increased lymphatic movement
  • Promotes the release of endorphins
  • Improved healing and immune response
  • Stimulates the nervous system
  • Improves energy and detoxification

Maybe grab some exercise and then relax in a long hot bath! They're both good for you!  Enjoy!
